Being the first road car from McLaren after the F1, the MP4-12C had big shoes to fill. But it met expectations and more. When the 12C Spider was released shortly afterwards, it made Italian and German rivals even more worried. It’s twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 saw a power increase to 600hp and performance figures that simply blew the competition away. With its carbon fibre tub, butterfly doors, and bright orange paintwork, you’d be forgive for thinking this was a racing car with number plates.
